After having worked in the television and film industry for over a decade, I've decided to escape the madness and relaunch myself into the creative world of graphic design. This blog documents snippets of inspiration gathered, projects I'm working on, and miscellaneous musings. It's more of a creativity-inducing personal scrapbook than anything else, but I encourage you to peruse it's pages, and add insight and share interesting tidbits whenever possible, because they are very welcome.

Justin Bua: King of the Streets

Justin Bua is a New York City artist who is well known in the graffiti scene, but has been making major waves in the global art community. He is mostly known for creating nostalgic pieces about the way things used to be in his neighbourhood – the community was alive with music, street art, and street performances during the early years of the rap scene in the boroughs of New York.

Bua is a caricaturist, and his depictions of the community that surrounds him have made him a prolific artist, capturing the essence of urban street life in his own stylistic way. His people are drawn out of proportion and their true individualistic details are what give each person their character.

Many of his works involve the theme of the four elements of Hip Hop: breakdancing, DJ'ing, MC'ing, and graffiti art. Hip Hop originally gave people the opportunity to find something productive to do in a time where crack-cocaine was becoming prevalent and destroying the community. Bua also depicts the world of underground jazz. I've been collecting his prints for years and can't wait to get my hands on some more. You can check out his website and see where he will be showing his latest exploits by clicking here

Quirky Alphabet Sets

Okay, I admit it, I am a typography fetishist. There's just something about being able to express yourself further than just using words. Lately, I've been immersed in collecting as many fonts as possible, and thank to my instructors and sites like ilovetypography.com I've learned a lot about typographical manipulation. But typography can go a lot further than just cool font designs. Here's a few examples of quirky alphabet sets that I've recently come across. As a personal goal, I'm hoping to be able to create one of my own this year to add to my portfolio. There are an infinite number of possibilities...all I need to do is start brainstorming.

Lacoste Goes Peanuts

Lacoste has come out with a brand new limited edition men's polo pack to celebrate 60 years of 'Peanuts'. Apparently, these designs are the first time that Lacoste has allowed another logo to share space with their classic croc. Currently, they're only available for a limited time at Dover Street Market, in London, UK.

Terry Border's Bent Objects

Terry Border is a borderline genius (no pun intended). I love his twisted sense of humor. You should check out his blog for more of these whimsical single-frame gems. There are way too many to post here, these are just a small sampling.

Creative Cupcakes

I'm getting married next summer, and was thinking about getting some crazy cupcakes made instead of buying a fancy wedding cake. I've been trying to search for great ideas online, and came up with an overwhelming number of possibilities. So now I have to narrow it down...what kind of theme do I want? Colour scheme? Flavours? So many to choose from! It's not going to be easy...

In the meantime, I'm drooling over some of these awesome designs!
