After having worked in the television and film industry for over a decade, I've decided to escape the madness and relaunch myself into the creative world of graphic design. This blog documents snippets of inspiration gathered, projects I'm working on, and miscellaneous musings. It's more of a creativity-inducing personal scrapbook than anything else, but I encourage you to peruse it's pages, and add insight and share interesting tidbits whenever possible, because they are very welcome.

Gorgeous GIFs (Now how often can you say THAT?!)

[please click on each image to see them in action]

Breathing new life into photographs, street photographer Jamie Beck and her partner motion graphic artist Kevin Burg have combined efforts to create some of the most compelling cinematic GIFs I've ever seen. These stunning images capture single moments in time with a voyeuristic style that is truly inspiring. I hope to see more of these in the near future.

More Resume Inspiration

And the hunt for a great design idea continues. It may feel like I'm procrastinating a little, but I really do want to choose the right image to present myself and get the job I "want" rather than "just another paycheck". I hope it's worth the effort.

The Great Job Hunt

It's that time again - time to collect my thoughts and experiences and try and convey to complete strangers that I would be an asset to their company. I figure a creative resume is the best way to go due to my background in arts and entertainment - but where to begin? There's so many options, so many fonts and colours! I'm going to have to do a little brainstorming and experimenting - but first I need a little creative inspiration. Here's a few examples to get me started...

Nike Releases Cheech and Chong Kicks on 420!

I'm not usually a fan of Nike products, being that they're an evil corporation and all (yadda yadda), but I can't resist drooling over these new special edition 420 dunk sneaks, released just in time for the Stoner's Holiday. Todd Bratrud is the creative genius behind these well-coordinated kicks, as well as the skate company the High5. The Cheech and Chong SB features two different sneakers, each incorporating the essence of the characters from their appearance in Up In Smoke - Cheech's trademark red beanie and Chong's characteristic red bandana. They also include a tear away canvas that reveals green suede underneath.

These sneakers are guaranteed to be tough to find in stores today though - they're limited to only 1000, so the best thing to do is to find out where they are selling closest to you via the 420 Forum Thread. Happy trails!

White Out

Everyone seems to be buried under a shit-ton of snow lately, but as I look out the window, we haven't had the pleasure as of yet. I'm not saying that's an entirely bad thing - I'm not a fan of digging my car out or braving the bitter cold of the tundra, but I do love being snuggly warm inside with a cup of cocoa and a splash of Carolan's.

I know I haven't been keeping up with this blog as I originally intended to, but hopefully 2011 will give me a renewed opportunity to get excited about art and design as I look for employment once again...in the meantime, I satisfy myself with images of amazing snow sculptures on Google Image Search...here's a few of the highlights...

London's Henry Hadlow

Henry is great. He used to be a scientist who researched drugs for cancer, but he enjoyed graphic design so much that now he is happier travelling the world and inspiring others. For more quirkiness from Henry Hadlow, visit his portfolio site. To find out more about him, visit his online profile.
