Going Back In Vogue

I grew up with my mom having lots of vintage Vogue cover prints all over the house and recently came across some more when I was searching for t-shirt design ideas...the lady in the moon is one of my all-time favorites. I would love to get my hands on a book full of them. 

Artoo, Making A Splash

The legendary R2D2 is making a big comeback in one-piece swimsuit form at Black Milk Clothing, an independent Australian clothing company that typically specializes in exotic leggings. Designed by Star Wars fanatic James Lillis, this awesome droid-suit is retailing at about $85, and is made from a Polyester/Lycra blend.

Even though it's not a licensed LucasFilm product, I don't think George would mind, especially if it's on the right model. Mark it down on your Xmas lists ladies!

Fafiness and Comic Books

Born and raised in Toulouse, France (where they make the best sausages!), world-famous artist Fafi has come a long way. Her street art spans the world, from Hong Kong to New York, Mexico to Amsterdam, and everywhere in between. She's designed collections for Adidas, Sony, LeSportSac, Coca-Cola, Colette and Mac Cosmetics. She's been covered by the most prestigious international magazines such as Vogue, Elle, The Face, XLR8R, and Yen, just to name a few. 

Aside from that, her works are also documented in books that are sold internationally, mainly in museum libraries and specialty shops that sell art books. GIRLS ROCK was published in 2003 and LOVE AND FAFINESS in 2006. Although her life is changing now (in 2007 she was married to DJ Medhi and is now a mother, living in Paris), she continues to proliferate her world with strong female figures, imaginative creatures and nostalgic French influences.

After completing yet another collaboration with Adidas in October 2009, she is expected to be releasing a comic book this year.  I can't wait!

A.D.I.D.A.B.K. (All Day I Dream About BK)

Seriously? You love Burger King so much you need to wake up next to the King himself? You can't live without an artery-clogging breakfast menu absorbing your drool? That's what I call an awesome slice of Americana. Why wouldn't you want to advertise in people's homes the second they open their eyes in the morning? Dan Clowes takes on The New Yorker

Dan Clowes, better known as the artist behind Eightball Comics, Ghost World, and Art School Confidential, took on The New Yorker by designing one of their covers back in 2008. He further went on to create a whole series of them to compile into a new book, where each page constitutes an individual scene within the greater whole. I know I know, it happened a couple of years ago, but that doesn't change the fact that I love them.

Gangster Ink by Laura Satana

If you're a lover of tattoo culture and art, you're gonna love Parisian tattoo artists Laura Satana's sado-masochistic designs. Drawing on traditional old school tattoo, pulp and pinup culture, she creates really feminine, but totally badass images using electric colours and cartoony street gangster elements. I would love to stop by her tat shop next time I visit family in Paris and get something done, like one of her Day of the Dead skulls.

BellaMuse artist Alicia Peck

Alicia Peck has created these beautiful prints for her cards and stationary, found in specialty stores around the world. Her main sources of inspiration come from antique images and a wry sense of humor. I love the simple, elegant, craftiness they evoke.

Francoise Nielly's Neon Portraits

French artist Francoise Nielly is a widely-publicized photographer and illustrator, best known for her beautiful neon portraits. Her fantastic use of colour in her oil paintings is vibrant and electric, seeming to breathe life with bold, dynamic strokes.

Photoshop Wizard Nik Ainley

My hero of the day today is Nik Ainley, UK-based graphic design prodigy. His images evoke an eerie, surreal atmosphere, and almost appear to come to life before your eyes. 


He miraculously mastered the art of Photoshopping in his free time while working on a degree in Physics at Imperial College in London. Deciding that illustration and graphic manipulation was infinitely more enjoyable than devoting a lifetime to stuffy science, he dropped the physics classes and started creating images full time. 


Nik currently works for CIA (Central Illustration Agency) and has worked with a multitude of clients, as well as having his work featured in exhibitions, books, magazines, and various websites.
